Tehra (pronounced TEAR_RA) Porterfield, Monarch's new varsity cheer coach, has been a cheer coach for nearly 18 years. Tehra was a high school cheerleader at Skyview High School. Then at age of twenty, she became Skyview's head cheer coach, where she continued to coach for ten years. At Skyview, Tehra started with a team of seven dedicated young athletes. Over time she built the program to include a Freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity team. During that time, the Skyview teams competed at both the COA Coed Nationals and UCA Nationals. After her time with the Skyview High School team, Tehra coached two years for a competitive cheer gym and personally cheered on the Metro State Road Runner s Co-Ed team as well as competitively on a level 6 open coed team. Tehra graduated from Metro State with a degree in Adult Fitness and Exercise Science and a minor in Nutrition. She then coached at Conifer High School for four years, building both the Junior Varsity and Varsity programs and taking them to the 2011 UCA Nationals. She also coached the Prairie View High School Junior Varsity team. We are thrilled to have Tehra come out of retirement to coach our team. Her coaching style and philosophy is that communication is KEY and expects each cheerleader to responsibly communicate with her if they will be late or miss a practice, and keeps an open door policy on communication. |
Assistant Coach

Julie Robinson is the newest addition to the cheer team as coaching assistant. Julie cheered all four years of high school and was part of an all-star team for a couple years. She made the all American team at UCA camp during the summers before junior and senior year; she chose to perform in the London New Year’s Day parade during her senior. Julie has many years of experience with gymnastics, dance and cheer. She has participated in a variety sports and has a strong background in discipline, form and teamwork. She coached incoming freshman at her former high school Niles West during the summer before her freshman year of college. In addition, Julie has 8 years of experience working with youth through coaching, mentoring and teaching. She has an education minor, which has allowed her to mentor high school students at Centaurus High School and Fairview; she is also a private swim instructor for the City of Boulder. These experiences allow her to have a different perspective to relate and provide discipline. Julie was unable to try out for the CU cheer team due to an ACL injury and reconstructive surgery. However, that does not deter her from continuing to engage in her passion--cheerleading. Julie is overjoyed to be a part of such a wonderful team at Monarch High School. And the Monarch Cheer team is happy to have her with them as well. |
